Economic cooperation focus of Raisi’s Turkiye trip: Iranian official

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari has said that modern and knowledge-based technologies coupled with other areas of economic cooperation are among the issues pursued during President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Turkiye.

Safari, who accompanies the president during the Wednesday trip to Ankara, made the comment the same day as he elaborated on agreements discussed in the Turkish capital.

He said that Raisi’s trip focused on bolstering cooperation on energy and extending the existing long-term gas contract between the two countries.

He added that the implementation of Turkiye's investment plan in Iran's gas sector is another topic of discussion, which can help increase Iran's export potential.

Pointing out to Tehran-Ankara talks on energy and oil cooperation, Safari noted that the two sides plan to connect their national power grids through the Iranian city of Khoy and the Turkish city of Van; a project which the Iranian official described as the beginning of collaboration on knowledge-based plans.

Heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Ankara, the capital of Turkiye, earlier on Wednesday at the invitation of his counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan for talks mainly focusing on economic cooperation between the two neighbors.
